1 January 2012, the University of Perpignan is autonomous

Under the law Freedoms and Responsibilities of Universities (LRU) in 2007 promoted by the Ministry of Higher Education, the University of Perpignan Via Domitia (UPVD) came to autonomous status on 1 January 2012, a year after the date initially planned.

In 2012, Perpignan exceeds the threshold of 120,000 inhabitants

The statistics on the demographics of the department of Pyrenees-Orientales and its central city show a real push.
